Selections from the grassroots radio project Calls From Home will air on this Sunday's Critical Times program from 8-9 a.m. on Sunday, or available on our WMNF's archives.
Calls From Home broadcasts the voices of U.S. prisoners and their families. It's produced by Kentucky's famed Appalshop group, by a group called Thousand Kites. Thousand Kites is a community-based performance, web, video and radio project centered on the United States prison system, and giving voice to people most radio listeners don't hear.
WMNF's broadcast was mentioned in the Louisville Courier-Journal.
Critical Times will also be airing selections from Youth Radio's "What's the New What" series this week and in future shows. Youth Radio is an award-winning radio series produced by teenagers. This series looks at new trends in society including Killing is the New Fighting, Sex Without Condoms is the New Engagement Ring and Gas Prices are the New Curfew.
Critical Times is hosted by Mabili Ajani Oguniyi on Sundays from 8-9 a.m. and available on WMNF's archives.
