WMNF’s Chief Engineer Bill Brown tells Sheila Cowley how he started out his career mowing the lawn at an AM station, then wound up as a DJ and learned engineering by helping out the station engineers.

Bill Brown’s now one of the most respected broadcast engineers around. He remembers one station he worked at, where he wound up fixing the transmitter while he was on the air DJ-ing, and what happened when a listener thought they’re being off the air was a communist plot.

Edited by Sheila Cowley.
