Gearing Up For The Talking Animals Festival: Suggest Animal Songs For The April 7 Sonic Detour

Duncan Strauss about about 5 years ago

Every so often, we do a "Talking Animals"-oriented edition of the Wednesday Sonic Detour, which largely means playing all animal songs.

We thought it was fitting to do so this Wednesday, April 7, just a few days before WMNF's first-ever Talking Animals Festival, April 11 at Lowry Park Band Shell, from Noon to 5pm.

So we invite you to suggest animal songs for Wednesday's show.

We've already received a coupla suggestions: Harry Hayward's "Animal Hoedown" and Guy Davis' "Skunkmello."

Please leave your own suggestion here, and we hope to see you Sunday at the Talking Animals Festival.

Also, if you could spare an hour or two to help us at the Festival, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Carrie Core at 813-238-8001 x 134 or Thanks!

On Norah Jones' new album, there's a fun animal tune--a dog song-- "Man Of The Hour"

A Zappa tune for Talking Animals

Evelyn, a Modified Dog from FZ's One Size Fits All is the perfect song, since Evelyn speaks: Arf, she said. Others include Toads of the Short Forest (Weasels Ripped My Flesh),It Must be a Camel (Hot Rats), Swans? What Swans? (Guitar), Dog Breath Variations (several CDs but the Yellow Shark version is perhaps the best), Spider of Destiny (Sleep Dirt {w/vocals)or Lather), The Adventures of Greggory Peccary (Studio Tan {very long}). I think they're all radio friendly.

Wow, thanks very much, Dave & Mike--I've played the Norah Jones song on "Talking Animals" & the last time I did an all animal song SD, but maybe I should play it again! And it'd be great to include Zappa for a bunch of reasons, not least that I believe both the Dream Clinic & A Step Outside are doing Zappa specials on April 7. Cool! Thanks again

Jane Siberry-'Everything Reminds Me of My Dog'

Hi Duncan- one of the bands I'll be playing in at Talking Animals Fest is the Chicken Chasers-we'll be performing "Everything Reminds Me of My Dog;" Jane is the best and the song is classic-this is a great event and I'm really looking forward to it!

I have heard that the only charitable animal song, and also Walt Disney's favorite, was from Mary Poppin's - Feed the Birds, Tuppence a Bag...
