How Midi Changed the World of Music

MIDI is the simple language that allows software to talk to synthesizers. As one ad featuring Joe Zawinul of Weather Report said, "Music is a powerful weapon, and now any fool can pull the trigger."
From the BBC, a story on MIDI's beginnings:
"What MIDI did is it allowed the first home studios to be born," he says.
"The computers were fast enough to be able to sequence notes, control the number of keyboards and drum machines at the same time… it kind of opened up a whole new industry."
