Betty Grebenschikoff tells her daughter, Jennifer, how she didn’t understand why everyone was crying when she and her family left their home in Berlin to move to Shanghai. All of her family who stayed in Europe were lost in the Holocaust. Betty grew up in Shanghai, until her family had to leave when the Chinese Communists came to power. She talks about moving to Australia a few weeks before Jennifer was born, and how it felt to come to America.
