Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, June 11, 7 PM Meeting Announcement

The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at The Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd/US 41, Land O’ Lakes, 34639, between SR 52 and SR 54. Land O’ Lakes Community Center is located on the west side of the highway. The subject of the Tuesday, June 11, 2013 program is “What is a Plant Community?”, presented by Shirley Denton, past president of the Florida Native Plant Society and the Suncoast Chapter president, an accomplished plant ecologist, and one of the most knowledgeable people in the state on the Florida environment. Shirley will talk about the basics of what a plant community is, how it relates to other terms such as natural community and ecosystem, and she will explain the concept of a plant community, provide some examples, and help us understand why plants are important in all of this. Meetings of the Chapter are free, and all interested parties are invited to attend, to bring questions about their yard, and participate in light refreshments and the native plant drawing.
