Terrence Brewer has been a favorite Jazz guitarist in the San Francisco Bay area, playing over 2000 live shows throughout California.

Winner - SF Weekly Music Award - Best Jazz Artist

Winner - Oakland Chamber of Commerce "Artist of the Year Award"

"A naturally gifted player with a beautiful, warm tone and a melodic penchant, his playing is eminently pleasing…" Bill Milkowski, Jazz Times, May '07

"The prolific melody maker has amassed an impressive song book of original music from modern straight-ahead jazz to soulful organic grooves. He (brewer) displays a strong affinity for connecting with live audiences and posses a delightful sound and tone of his own...a skilled and gifted guitarist!"- Chris Cortez, DJ/Producer KCSM, FM 91.1 'Bay area's jazz station'

"Brewer has a distinctive guitar sound and his compositions are rooted in classical jazz standards with a fresh voice. The horizon belongs to him and we are sure to hear more."

  • Brenda Payton, Oakland Tribune feature,

"Over the past decade, Brewer has established himself as an accomplished improviser with an exquisite tone. His (Brewer) sound is marked by a balance and maturity more often found in much older players. His graceful, well-constructed solos flow thematically out of his compositions, rather than turning his tunes into mere launching pads for displays of technique."- Andy Gilbert, Contra Costa Time feature, May 2006

"Brewer is clearly a talented musician, able to compose and play with equal grace. His music is capable of invoking the heritage of classical jazz even while stamping it with his own modern imprint" Of the compositions on The Calling: Volume One and Volume Two "range from slow, sensuous ballads" to "Lately a gorgeous, funky, seductive track that intertwines tenor sax, electric guitar and organ" - Ryan White, Alameda Sun, April 2006

"I love him. His music is beautiful. Brother Brewer is sayin a whole lot. He has his own soundhis own style. He doesnt sound like anyone else.when I hear Terrence Brewer, I know its him."
  • Legendary Guitarist Calvin Keyes, Live interview on KPFA (94.1), June 2006

Jazz Guitarist, Composer, Arranger, and Musical Director, resides in Alameda, California. Brewers aggressive marketing and business acumen aided him in leading his own instrumental and vocal groups in over 1300 shows throughout California in the last five years. In addition to this impressive feat, Brewer possesses the rich experience of performing with legendary artists such as Mary Wilson(founding member of The Supremes), Pete Escovedo, Babtunde Lea, Dave Ellis, Calvin Keyes, Bruce Forman, Scott Amendola, Vocalist Kim Nalley (in a production of Courtney Browns, "Lady Day in Love"), Tammy Hall, Khalil Shaheed, Ed Kelly, Michael Zilber, Tuck and Patti,, and many others.

In addition to his various performances, Brewers fate led him to study with some great artists. He studied with Bay Area Pianist and Music Theory Expert Mark Levine and with two of the worlds greatest guitarists, Duck Baker and Charlie Hunter. Along with learning a tremendous amount musically from Hunter and creating a friendship in the process, Hunter encouraged Brewer to continue playing finger-style guitar. Playing in this style, without a pick, Brewer discovered, nurtured, and continues to nurture a greater understanding and more intense connection with the guitar.

In April 2006 Brewer launched his own independent record label and self-produced two full-length albums for that label The Calling: Volume One and Volume Two. The Calling: Volume One and Volume Two contains 17 of Brewers original compositions and features the playing of some of todays most talented young musicians.

Exotic Latin tinged and odd-meter grooves (Murrays Law, The Hands of Man) drive The Calling: Volume One, along with fiery up-tempo swing numbers (Dedication, Vari-8-Shun), and passionate ballads (The Way, Cat-Nap). In addition to Brewer on guitar, Volume One displays the talents of Ravi Abcarian (Kahlil Shaheed, Oaktown Jazz Workshop) on acoustic bass, Ben Stolorow (Oba Oba, Misturada, Kotoja) on piano, and Micah McClain (KeHoe Nation, Blackwell) on drums.

The Calling: Volume Two follows in the footsteps of the great guitar/organ/drum trios of the past, yet Brewer lends his own modern original twists on those familiar sounds. Volume Two begins with heavy backbeat funk (Lately), continues with scorching swing numbers (A.D.D., Sunrise Sunset), and balances out with powerful and bluesy ballads (Chrystal Clarity, Peaches and Cream). Volume Two features Brewer on guitar, long-time friend Derrek Phillips (Charlie Hunter Trio) on drums, Wil Blades (Mother Bug, O.G.D.) on Hammond B-3 Organ, and Eric Drake (Space Invaders) on tenor saxophone.

As if focusing on his next trio and quartet projects isnt enough, Brewer keeps busy with practicing, performing, and staying active in the Alameda and San Leandro Chambers of Commerce. Even with Brewers breadth of talents, playing guitar remains his passion, I thoroughly enjoy performing both big and small events either by myself or with the talented and inspiring musicians I perform with. I also love writing to complement the appropriate musical setting, which I believe helps create musical moods compositionally. My journey as a musician is both exciting and challenging; I embarked upon it when I was just a kid and didnt know what any of it really meant or was going to mean to me as an adult, but every day it brings so much joy to my life.

"Word is spreading quickly about this sensational guitarist. This cat can play!"
-Jim Harrington, Jazz Columnist, Oakland Tribune
