Kenny K (Waters) was the first DJ to play rap and hip hop on Tampa Bay radio. His Arbitron ratings for his Saturday midnight show shortly after it started in 1986 set the record that still stands for most listeners to a WMNF show. He was an original member of Digital Underground. In late 1993, Kenny was in need of a liver transplant, but he didn't have health insurance. Due to this, his name was not admitted to the waiting list for organ donors. Kenny K passed away on February 5, 1994.
WMNF's hip hop shows remember Kenny K with this tribute event, featuring Rahim Samad; The Villanz; Funkahost.
Suggested donation $5. All proceeds split between The Damn Jams, Saturday Night Shutdown, The Righteous Temple of Hip Hop, and Hip Hop Flavors (WMNF programs).
Advanced tickets may be purchased by phone or online only...They are not at ticket outlets, but plenty will be available at the door.
