Tonight will be a very special evening!

The WMNF Peace Awards are designed to honor those who have made great strides and efforts in the areas of human rights, social and economic justice, the environment and non-violence.

Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! will serve as the keynote speaker, and WMNF's Rob Lorei will be the evening's emcee. Additionally, we're thrilled Eliza Gilkyson will make an appearance and perform for a half-hour. All this and dinner, too!

The WMNF Peace Awards Saturday, August 28, 2009 6-9pm ~ Maestro's will cater the event, which is to be held at the Straz Center (formerly Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center), 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place Tampa, Florida 33602.

The festivites will be in the Ruth Silbiger Lobby, inside the Carol Morsani Hall at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts

The VIP Early Reception entry is at 5pm ~ These tickets are $100 & include libations & appetizers ~ Please, BE SURE to purchase the correct ones, the 6pm entry tickets are available on the next event posting down.

The general dinner and awards ceremony event is a $60 ticket, with regular entry beginning at 6pm.

The purchase of this ticket allows the bearer to meet Eliza Gilkyson, our special musical guest performer, and Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now! and WMNF personalities & supporters.

You may place a note in the comment section or you will be contacted for your meal preference. There are three dinner choices: Chicken Mojito over Sweet Mashed Potatoes with Seasonal Vegetables, or Vegetarian Napoleon with Cheese (Grilled Seasonal Vegetables layered with Fresh Herbs and Caramelized Shallots with Pesto Vinaigrette), or a vegan version of that (No Cheese)… All served with Homemade Focaccia Bread & Seasoned Butter, House Greens Salad w/choice of dressings & Chef's Selection Dessert

Once on Ashley Street, go to the first traffic light and turn right on Tyler Street and go a half block to The Center. From the Orlando-Lakeland area, take I-4 West to I-275 South and take the Ashley Street/West Tampa Exit 44 (old 25). From I-75 North or South, take I-4 West to Tampa then to I-275 South. The Ashley Street/West Tampa Exit 44 (old 25) is the second exit. If you are coming via Bayshore Boulevard, go over the Platt Street bridge and turn left on Florida Avenue. Go straight nine blocks, turn left on Tyler Street and drive three and a half blocks to The Center. From Selmon Expressway East-bound, take Kennedy Boulevard and turn right on to Florida Avenue. Turn left on Tyler Street and go three and a half blocks to The Center.
