<title>Lauris Vidal Performs On The Wednesday Sonic Detour</title>
      <link>http://www.wmnf.org./program_specials/429</link>
<description>Lauris Vidal--an immensely talented, somewhat nomadic Florida musician whom the Tampa music scene is smartly claiming as its own--will perform during the second hour of the Sonic Detour Nov. 11, alongside the exceptional rhythm section of bassist Roberto Aguilar and drummer Billy Dean.

I saw these these guys in late June, and I was so blown away that I still think about the show. In an e-mail afterward to Bev (that became the core of a blog post), I said that "Lauris comes across as an emerging major artist: insanely gifted, adventurous in a host of ways, a great synthesizer of influences but clearly heeding a powerful muse a yield a wholly original blast of art...."

There's more, including that the rhythm section could remind you of John Paul Jones &amp; Bonzo as much as Sly &amp; Robbie. Not bad. These three guys will perform for much of the Sonic Detour's second hour, and we'll include a brief interview with Lauris.

They'll also perform later this week, on Nov. 14, joining Have Gun, Will Travel for HGWT's CD release party at the New World Brewery. http://www.myspace.com/laurisvidal

Thanks,

<title>Hip-Hop artist, B.C. on the next ALL SOULS</title>
      <link>http://www.wmnf.org./program_specials/430</link>
<description>Combining complex metaphor, time travel, scintillating lyrical gymnastics, anime, radical politics, and an apocryphal-dystopian comic book aesthetic, Red Tide member and Florida MC, BC, the Black Child, delivers his solo debut, the first of a three part conceptual album, "Time Pieces."

Tune this Friday when B.C. joins host Scott Elliott to discuss his latest release, the local music scene, the state of hip-hop today.

<title>Noted Rock Critic Robert Hilburn On The Weds Sonic Detour</title>
      <link>http://www.wmnf.org./program_specials/428</link>
<description>Robert Hilburn--whose work during his 35-year stint as pop music critic at the Los Angeles Times earned him a reputation as one of rock's most respected, influential journalists--will discuss his new book, "Corn Flakes With John Lennon And Other Tales From A Rock 'N' Roll Life," on the Wednesday Sonic Detour Nov. 4, just after 5pm.

From the introduction by Bono (who clearly admires if not adores Hilburn &amp; gives him a lot of credit: "he made us better") to lots of great stories about Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, Chuck D, Jack White, et al--with a handful of nifty sidebar-like elements--it's an unusual book, by a writer-critic with an unusually long tenure at a publication, and unusual access to rock's most important figures.&#160;

Bob Hilburn will speak with us live on Nov. 4, and listeners are invited to participate in the conversation by calling (813-239-9663) or e-mailing (DJ@wmnf.org).

I posted about Bob and the new book (noting I wrote for The L.A. Times under Hilburn in the 80s) on my buddy Marty's music blog: http://afterhoursmusicblog.blogspot.com/

More on Bob and the book: http://www.roberthilburnonline.com/

      <title>All Souls: Luther Vandross Special!!!</title>

      <description>ALL SOULS FAMILY!!!

Two hours of Luther Vandross music!!

Luther Vandross was one of the most successful R&amp;B artists of the 1980s and '90s.
Not only did he score a series of multi-million-selling albums containing chart-topping, Grammy Award winning hit singles and perform sold-out tours of the U.S. and around the world, but he also took charge of his music creatively, writing or co-writing most of his songs and arranging and producing his records.

His early death at the age of 54 robbed American popular music of one of its more consistent and compelling voices, and it is only a partial comfort that he left behind a substantial body of work.

<title>RUNS IN THE FAMILY on the next Tuesday Morning Show</title>
      <link>http://www.wmnf.org./program_specials/418</link>
<description>Taking its name and inspiration from the Roches, the show will feature singer-songwriters and their children who have followed in their footsteps. Some offspring are working in relative obscurity, while others have gone on to greater success than their parents. Some are obviously influenced by their parents&#8217; music, and others have deliberately taken a different path. And in a few cases, the parent-child relationships - both good and bad - have produced some inspired songwriting.

Feel free to make suggestions below or e-mail me at marcie@wmnf.org.
