Historian James W. Loewen separates fact from fiction on Christopher Columbus Day

Share

Today in the United States we mark Columbus Day. For some it’s a holiday, for some Italian Americans it’s a way to honor the Italian contribution to America. For some Native Americans it’s a day to protest his treatment of native people. Christopher Columbus is given credit by some for being the first European explorer to come to North America.

Rob Lorei talks about Christopher Columbus with James W. Loewen, the bestselling author of Lies My Teacher Told Me and Lies Across America. He is a regular contributor to the History Channel’s History magazine and is a professor emeritus of sociology at the University of Vermont.
