Tomorrow is World AIDS Day which is designed to bring international attention to the fight against HIV and AIDS. It will be observed in both downtown Tampa and St. Petersburg tomorrow.

Motorists driving on FloridaÃ¢â¬â¢s turnpike who found it politically offensive that Citgo has been the only brand of fuel available at service plazas will be getting some roadside assistance on other options.
The Florida Department of Transportation has announced that within the next few months, , signs will go up at turnpike exits listing other gas stations just off the highway. Drivers will not have to pay an additional toll if they get off to fill up.

The Tampa City Council today selected 2 new members to server for the next 4 months on the Council.
Land use attorney Charles Ã¢â¬ÅChipÃ¢â¬? Fletcher was selected to replace Rose Ferlita in District 2, and Frank Reddick, an executive board member of the East Tampa Partnership, was selected to replace Kevin White in District 5.
Ferlita and White left the board earlier this month after they both successfully were elected to the Hillsborough County Commission.

Judges across the state- in Miami-Dade, Broward, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Orange and Osceola counties are trying to force the Florida Department of Children and Families to comply with state law on the mentally ill. Currently, the DCF is looking the other way while hundreds of mentally ill people are housed in county jails.

On Thursday, the Tampa City Council must choose who will replace 2 open positions on the 7 member Council.
So today, the now 5 member Board heard 2 minute presentations by all of those candidates vying for those open seats Ã¢â¬â over 50 people in all.
The seats became vacant earlier this month, after Council members Rose Ferlita and Kevin White both successfully were elected to the Hillsborough County Commission.

Today began the first step of a three-week audit that of electronic voting machines in Sarasota County that is being conducted all day long.
State auditors will be looking for evidence that computer programs, which tell the machines what to do, were changed in a way that would affect what voters saw on the screen or how the votes were recorded.

This morning, WMNF spoke further with Rhonda Abbott, manager of social services planning for the city of St. Petersburg. She oversees all the funding for the cityÃ¢â¬â¢s social service activities and says a lot of progress has already been made toward the homeless cause, and much more effort is still to come with St. PeteÃ¢â¬â¢s 10 year plan, which was implemented earlier this year.
