New Hillsborough County Commissioners Sworn in by Mitch E. Perry

The new Hillsborough County Commission was sworn into office today. In addition to 3 new members being inducted into office, Jim Norman was re-elected to being the Commision Chairman.

The Board is the most Republican perhaps ever, with only 1 Democrat now on the 7 member Board.

And there will only be 1 female on it as well, that being Rose Ferlita, who has served on the Tampa City Council for nearly 8 years, before easily winning to succeed Kathy Castor in the Countyâ€â„...

VOTING RIGHTS GROUPS CALL FOR REVOTE IN DISPUTED 13TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT ELECTION

Voter Action, People For the American Way Foundation, the ACLU of Florida, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, are holding a press conference today to announce a lawsuit calling for a revote in Sarasota County’s portion of Florida’s 13th Congressional District. In the studio this afternoon with WMNF's Rob Lorei was Becky Steele, the director of the Tampa chapter of the ACLU. She discussed the grounds for the lawsuit and took listener questions about voting irregularities.

Zephryllhills City Council member nearly goes 48 hours as a Homeless man by Mitch E. Perry

Luis Lopez is a City Council member for the city of Zephryhills, and has been working for a mental health agency over the past few years. He says that his experience working with several members of the homeless people in his job compelled him to want to do more for the homeless, to ‘walk the walk’, as it were.

Democrat Christine Jennings officially contested her controversial Congressional District race today -- immediately after the Florida Election Canvassing Commission certified that Republican Vern Buchanan was the winner in Florida’s 13th Congressional district.
