ENERGY SAVING TIPS FOR HOME CONSTRUCTION

On this edition of the Sustainable Living program, Jon Butts invited builder Dan Maxwell and ECOSMART Regional Director Mike Evans to the WMNF studios to discuss building an energy-efficient home. Dan and Mike discussed solar hot water, insulation, hurricane-resistance, attic cooling, solar panels and other design features that can be used to reduce energy consumption.

Today in downtown St Petersburg, about three dozen supporters rallied with the Democratic US Congressional candidate Samm Simpson outside the office of her opponent. US Representative for District 10, Bill Young. While many believe Young will hold onto the seat he has served for 36 years, Simpson’s anti-war, anti-GOP message seems to capture the mood of a nation crying out for change. In Colorado Springs, members of the New Life Church were stunned and brought to tears yesterday by the Reverend Ted Haggard’s confessions of “sexual immorality,� then accepted his plea for forgiveness with open arms.

GOP "Robo " calls anger voters by Mitch E. Perry

Over the weekend, complaints started being registered by voters, who received so called ‘robo calls’ being done by the National Republican Campaign Committee that denigrate Democrats.

Kevin White and Ken Anthony compete for Hillsborough County Commission seat by Mitch E. Perry

One of the more interesting races in Hillsborough County will be the race to replace Thomas Scott in District 3, which encompasses most of East Tampa Seminole Heights, as well as West Tampa. This radio station at 1210 East Martin Luther King sits right in the middle of the district, and today both of the candidates in the race, Democrat Kevin White and Republican Ken Anthony, came by the WMNF studios to discuss their candidacies.

In the Florida Attorney General race, a statewide Television ad being run by Republican Bill McCollum suggests that his Democratic opponent, Skip Campbell isn't ethically qualified to be Florida's next attorney general because of a controversial 2001 adoption bill.

Sarasota Homeless Ordinance by Mitch E. Perry

A long running legal battle dealing with the homeless came to at least a short term conclusion yesterday when a Circuit Judge ruled that Bradenton and Sarasota’s ‘No lodging’ Ordinance IS constitutional.

The city of Sarasota passed the controversial ordinances last year, but the ordinance was twice overturned and rewritten after judges expressed concerns about its constitutionality. Bradenton passed a similar law this summer.
