Hillsborough County School Board rejects parent permission to join Gay-Straight Alliances by Mitch E. Perry12/13/06
After a 2 hour debate, the Hillsborough County School Board lat night voted NOT to require students to get parental permission to join a club at school.
The discussion was initiated after controversy erupted last year over the creation of a gay-straight alliance at Newsome High School in Lithia. A parent group objected to such a club there, though similar clubs were in existence throughout the School District.

On a local public affairs show broadcast over the weekend, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean warned that if Florida moved its presidential primary before February 5th, Florida Democrats could lose delegates, and any candidate who campaigns in the Sunshine State would have to forfeit delegates.

As criticism reigned down on him, Florida Governor Ã¢â¬âElect Charlie Crist announced over the weekend that he was canceling plans for his inaugural ball, saying that he didn't feel right about an expensive party when many people are struggling with higher insurance and property tax bills

Last month parts of the right wing blogosphere went ballistic when Florida Senator Mel Martinez was named to become the Republican National Committee.
