Eileen Ivers, first lady of the Celtic fiddle. Eileen Ivers will change the way you think about the violin. She will appear with the Florida Orchestra in 3 concerts May 5-7. She performs both traditional Celtic tunes as well as the new international sound she has created that has made her the pre- eminent exponent of Irish fiddle in the world today. She talks about her life and fiddlin’ in general.

Kim will be in Tampa Friday, May 12 to receive The Humanist Distinguished Service award and the Feminist Caucus' Humanist Heroine award at the American Humanist Association national conference.   • A noted scientist in the sports nutritional supplement world pleaded guilty today to supplying the Bay Area Laboratory-Cooperative with the performance-enhancing drug known as "the clear."

For the past 4 months, students at the University of South Florida engaged in a cooperative research project with residents of East Tampa. Revitalizing the East Tampa neighborhood, and its economy was of mayor Pam Iorio's stated goals when she took office, and she was one of the opening speakers at St Johns progressive Baptist church in east Tampa, where the students presented the results of their work. Janitor strike continues to University of Miami by Mitch E. Perry

In Coral Gables, just outside of Miami, the labor dispute between university subcontractor UNICCO and the Service Employees International Union, which wants to represent the janitors, has now dragged on for 2 months. The University has raised the janitors’ hourly pay and offered a health plan, but strikers want University of Miami President Donna Shalala to go further.

HARTLINE Study group's findings discussed and dissected by Mitch E.Perry

Today Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair presented his Study Group’s findings on Hartline, the County’s Bus System, to the County Commissioners.

The study and the group that produced it have been shrouded in controversy since its inception, when it barred any citizens who live in Tampa from being involved. That angered Commissioners like Tom Scott and Kathy Castor, both of whom represent sections of Tampa.
