Rabbi Richard Birnholz of Congregation Schaarai Zedek in Tampa joined the Sunday Simcha to tell of his recent trip to Israel with 46 of his congregants. Rabbi Birnholz explained how on some days it seemed as if Israel was at peace, and also described when they experienced a Katyusha missile exploding close by. Vice President Dick Cheney came to Tampa today, for a 500 dollar a head fundraiser for Gus Bilirakis, who is running to replace his father Mike Bilirakis for the district 9 seat in the US House of Representatives. Cheney landed in Tampa around 11am, but hours earlier, about a dozen protestors were gathered on Kennedy Boulevard in front of the Wyndham, to voice their discontent about the vice president.

It now appears that the sale of the 91,000 acre Babcock Ranch, the largest piece of land remaining in the state, WILL go thru, with the announcement that the Sierra Club has dropped their legal challenge to that sale. . The challenge to changes in the Charlotte County land use plan threatened to derail a long-standing effort to preserve in state ownership up to 74,000 acres of the 91,000-acre Babcock Ranch.

The city of Palm Bay is set to vote today on an ordinance that intends to crack down on illegal immigration by imposing fines and possibly leveling criminal charges on employers hiring unauthorized workers.

Yesterday State Farm became the latest insurance company in Florida to raise home insurance ratesÃ¢â¬Â¦..Statewide, the increase will be 53% - and is actually much higher in some local areas Ã¢â¬â such as Collier County, where rates will rise by about 90 percent on November 1st for existing customers.

Brian Blair wants property tax reduction
Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair proposed today a property tax reduction for Hillsborough residents.

Today, as bombs continued to fall, about 2,400 Americans were evacuated out of Lebanon by US military ships and marines. But Thousands more remain, and many are having difficulty getting to evacuation points, for fear of being killed by Israeli bombs. This morning in Tampa, family members of some of those trapped in Lebanon issued a plea to the US government to call for ceasefire so that Americans can be brought out to safety.
