Leroy Collins Jr for Senate by Mitch E. Perry

The ST. Petersburg Times reported today that US Republican Senate candidate Katherine Harris had incorrectly listed several Florida politicians as having endorsed her candidacy, when they have not.

The list includes Congressmembers Ginny Brown-Waite, Mark Foley, Cliff Stearns and Jeff Miller.

Harris said she checked with her staff and learned that the lawmakers had endorsed her but that it was before they knew she had three opponents in the September 5th primary.

Tampa City Council reverses Administration on Bayshore Generator by Mitch E. Perry

Feeling heat from Bayshore residents, the Tampa City Council today voted to direct City staff to find funding to move a proposed emergency generator away from its current location along Bayshore Boulevard.

Currently an 8 foot concrete enclosure sits along a median on Bayshore, in front of the Monte Carlo condominium tower. The generator that would fit inside that is scheduled to be installed within the next month. But since the enclosure was installed earlier this summer, neighborhoo...

Hillsborough Commission talks about Adult Businesses by Mitch E. Perry

Hillsborough County Commissioners today discussed a referendum that will be placed on this November’s ballot that will ask voters whether local governments should regulate erotic dance clubs and adult movie theaters "to the fullest extent allowed by law."

Yesterday the city of Tampa scrapped plans to move its Museum of Art for the third time. But Mayor Pam Iorio has not taken away without offering an alternative. The latest plans drawn up by the City – the fourth set in five years – would have a new art building close to the existing site on the Hillsborough river and situated next to a proposed Children’s Museum. According to a writer with the Associated Press, Fidel Castro appears tired yet alert in a video with his younger brother and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the first footage of the bedridden Cuban leader since he stepped aside as president two weeks ago.

The video was shown yesterday to Cuban audiences on the state run television station., and comes after 2 straight days of fresh photographs in Cuba’s state run newspaper, Granma.
