Ohio Freshman Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown confessed yesterday that he had made a mistake when he voted for The Military Commission Act last fall – also known as the Torture Bill. The bill also did away with habeus corpus for detainees.

City and county government officials are accusing Governor Charlie Crist of deliberately putting out false information in an effort to win property tax cuts. Crist has said that local governments are fighting property tax cuts even when they sit atop $9 billion dollars in reserves. Pinellas County has promised a group called East Lake Youth Sports Association, or ELYSA, that several sports fields would be built within Brooker Creek Preserve, but citizens are fighting that plan. Tampa Bay Water rejects Swiftmud proposal to divert water to lower Hillsborough

Today the Board of Directors of Tampa Bay Water met at their headquarters in Clearwater to discuss a plan to divert water from the Tampa Bypass Canal to the lower Hillsborough River. The plan was proposed by the Southwest Florida Water Management District, or Swiftmud, in order to improve the health of the River and to meet requirements for minimum water flow and levels. But as WMNF’s Seán Kinane reports, the plan met with opposition from Tampa Bay Water and was not implemented.

Less than 24 hours after the Florida Legislature passed a tax reform package that will bring some tax relief to homeowners next year, Republicans are hailing the move, while Democrats are bashing it.
