Last month, the Florida Department of Education admitted that third-grade reading scores were inflated on the 2006 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, or FCAT. This morning at Tampa’s Grand Hyatt, the DOE’s second FCAT External Advisory Group met to discuss recommendations to deal with those problems. The state Public Service Commission yesterday approved Tampa Electric’s proposal to build a 230,000 volt transmission line in eastern Hillsborough County. The state legislature begins its 2 week special session on property taxes tomorrow, fresh off a proposal with specific details that was finally produced late Friday afternoon.

Yesterday the Florida Democratic Party announced that they would do nothing to change their January 29th Presidential Primary election next year.

That date – set by the Florida legislature earlier this year – violates the Democratic National Committee’s rules, which bans all but 4 states from holding primaries before February 5th.

It means Florida could stand to lose some of all of their 241 delegates to the national convention, and the presidential candidates who campaign in Florida...
