Pat Chamburs a DJ on WMNF’s airwaves for more than 20 years and somewhat of a broadcasting legend, died yesterday, according to his son, Philip. Pat Chamburs was believed to have been 82.

Chamburs' Wednesday night jazz show ran on WMNF from 1983 until 2005. But his radio career started nearly four decades before, in 1947, just after World War II. HCC halts construction on Ybor campus extension listen

Construction has stopped on an extension to Hillsborough Community College’s Ybor City campus, after the school learned that the building’s 60-foot height exceeded city standards by 15 feet.

Ashley Carl, a spokesperson for HCC, says construction on the building has not yet acceded the height standard, but would if built as designed.

Tampa City Councilman John Dinfelder has filed to run for a Hillsborough County Commission seat in 2010.

Dingfelder ran for the same seat in 2002, but lost to Congresswoman Kathy Castor. In 2003, he was elected to the City Council in 2003, representing South Tampa.

He was re-elected in 2007, in a fierce battle against former City Attorney Julie Brown.

WMNF spoke with Dingfelder today, and asked him how seriously had he considered running for Mayor in 2011.

A federal grand jury yesterday handed up a new indictment against Luis Posada Carriles, for the first time linking the Cuban exile militant in a U.S. legal proceeding to a series of 1997 tourist-site bombings in Cuba that killed an Italian national.

The indictment came from a grand jury in El Paso, Texas. It does not directly accuse him of planting or plotting the bombing, but accuses him of perjury and obstruction of a U.S. investigation into international terrorism.

Last year St.Petersburg residents living in the Azalea neighborhood learned that they were living within contamination from underground wastewater seeping from the nearby Raytheon Company plant.

Two class-action lawsuits were filed, and one homeowner has filed her own separate lawsuit.
