Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas visited Stetson University’s College of Law in Gulfport this morning to deliver a speech to several hundred law students, faculty, and invited guests. He avoided direct comment on several controversial decisions, including last month’s decision liberalizing corporate donations to political campaigns.

Sinkholes and depressions along the I-4 corridor have cost Florida taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in repair costs. WMNF spoke with Marian Scorza from the Department of transportation.

Today Mayor Pam Iorio awarded WMNF’s Polka Party Express show with the proclamation of February 1st as WMNF Polkateer day.

Recently the mayor of Tampa appeared on WMNF’s Sunday polka show. Today she issued a proclamation to honor the show and its fans. Proclamations are the fun part of the mayor’s job, because she says that they’re easy to say “yes” to. But some of the City's decisions about proclamations are more controversial.

Utility companies denied rate increases, threaten project cuts listen

Over the past month, the Public Service Commission (PSC) has rejected rate hikes for both Progress Energy and Florida Power and Light. In response, both utility companies say they will cut or delay future projects.

The PSC is in charge of regulating utility companies. On January 12, the PSC denied Florida Power and Light (FPL) a $1.3 billion annual increase. FPL was not happy with the decision and announced in a press release the next day that it would “suspend” several projects, incl...
