Former State Senator Les Miller pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Hillsborough County yesterday. The County Commission District 3 race pitted embattled incumbent Kevin White against Miller and political newcomer Valerie Goddard. Miller stole the show with just over 50% of the vote.

State Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink easily won the Democratic bid for governor in yesterday’s primary. Now the big question is how she can do battle with a GOP opponent who has already poured nearly $40 million of his own money into his campaign. Florida is set to receive $700 million in federal Race to the Top grant money. John and Sheila Stewart are two of the winners of this year's WMNF Peace Awards. They are teachers and peace activists who have been committed to non-violence for more than 25 years. For years they protested the GE nuclear weapons plant in Pinellas county. They also have been part of Central American solidairity activities and were involved in boycotts of Nestles, GE and tobacco products. Each month they publish a peace activities calendar.
