St. Pete City Council is considering whether to impose a fee on properties to pay for the city’s fire services. On Thursday, council will vote on whether to implement the suggestion proposed by Mayor Bill Foster in order to avoid cutting city services. City Council member Steve Kornell voted against the measure on first reading in June, but it advanced anyway.

Statistics released today show that more than 1.2 million Americans have been able to get at least one preventative healthcare service at no cost during the first half of this year. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with their trash haulers to beef up community surveillance along their routes. Today, drivers in the county took a class to learn what red flags to look for and what to do if something seems out of place.
