A group of street medics is gearing up for the Republican convention later this month by teaching people how to stay safe in large crowds and in the blazing summer heat. Juliana, one of the street medics who asked that her last name not be used, was a trainer at one of the several events held last week in Tampa and Clearwater. She said sometimes people like her are the only help available when something goes wrong during a protest.

In less than two weeks the Republican National Convention kicks off in Tampa, and Big Brother will be watching.
Today on Last Call we talked with Jon Gales about the new closed-circuit surveillance cameras installed in Tampa for the convention. He has a new website called RNCCTV.com. It has a map of the location of dozens of the cameras.

A trio of public and private groups in the Tampa Bay area is joining forces to reduce dependence on petroleum. The University of South Florida, the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County and TECO Energy committed funding to the Clean Cities Coalition this morning at USF’s Patel Center for Global Sustainability.
