We’re still waiting to hear who Republican Mitt Romney will pick as a running mate; but we already know who the Green Party’s Vice Presidential nominee is: Cheri Honkala. She’s the national coordinator for the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign and was selected by presidential nominee Jill Stein to be on the Green ticket. Honkala is in the Tampa Bay area this weekend for a series of events.

In an audio nuclear timeline by the visual artist Ishao Hashimito we reviewed the bombing of Nagasaki on the 67th anniversary of the attack. Historical information and audio cues were used. Ironically, Nagasaki before the bombing was possibly most noted not only for its Mitsubishi plants, but was the setting for Puccini's Madame Butterfly.

Sarasota County Schools are getting $800,000 back from their health insurance provider because of the new federal healthcare law. The rebate from Blue Cross and Blue Shield could have an impact on the district’s overall budget by mitigating potential tax increases. Al Weidner, deputy chief financial officer for Sarasota schools, said there’s no way to know for sure, but he’s hopeful the Affordable Care Act will continue to drive healthcare costs down for employees and the district.
