Last night, President Barack Obama delivered the first State of the Union Address of his second term. WMNF’s Lenka Davis reports from two watch parties in Tampa, one organized by the Hillsborough County Young Democrats and the other one by Tampa Bay Young Republicans.

At Mangroves bar in South Tampa, just minutes before the president’s speech was televised, a member of the Hillsborough County Young Democrats, Tim Heberlein, highlighted three important issues he wanted to hear.

Pinellas Commissioners will vote this month on whether to add transit referendum to ballot listen

Pinellas County Commissioners scheduled a vote on whether or not to put a sales tax referendum on the November ballot. The measure would likely increase county sales tax from 7% to 8, but commissioners could change that. Commissioner Norm Roche who is also on the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority Board voted last month to move the issue to County Commission, but was the only descending commissioner during today’s discussion.

USF St. Pete students can drive a car without owning one through new ride share program listen

USF St. Pete launched a car share program for students and faculty today. The WeCar program will have two vehicles available for hourly or daily rentals. Greer changed his previous plea from not guilty on theft and money laundering charges to guilty. The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit authority is trying to make it easier for bus riders to figure out how to get from point A to point B. Conservation groups have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service for not providing Loggerhead sea turtle habitat protection.
