Business leaders in the Tampa Bay area are asking Florida lawmakers to accept federal dollars to expand the state’s Medicaid program for one million uninsured Floridians. Tampa General Hospital CEO Jim Burkhart said legislators need to compromise on a plan to accept the $51 billion left on the table this year.

“Which is $5.1 billion a year and by the way, we’re missing the first $5.1 billion, so the clock’s ticking.”

A divided St. Petersburg City Council voted late last night 5-3 to adopt Mayor Bill Foster's tentative fiscal year budget. The City Council Chamber filled up quickly, prompting the city to open two additional rooms with close circuit television. A dozen anti-war activists gathered outside of Bill’s Nelson office in Tampa yesterday to urge him to vote against military action in Syria if the issue is brought to Congress. The protest was organized by the Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society.

The executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Tampa, Hassan Shibly, told WMNF he found burnt pages from the Quran outside the CAIR Tampa office Thursday morning.

He later posted a photo of the charred remains on Facebook.

Because of an expected budget surplus Governor Rick Scott wants to cut $500 million worth of taxes for Floridians next year. During a stop at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Thursday as part of what he’s calling the “It’s Your Money” tour, Scott emphasized cuts to job creators.
