Candidates for offices in St. Petersburg have varied ideas on how to increase funding for arts in the community. The two mayoral candidates and all eight people running for city council tried to woo arts enthusiasts with their ideas during a forum at Studio 620 in downtown Wednesday. Syria’s foreign minister announced today his country will declare its chemical weapons arsenal and sign chemical weapons convention.

A Senate panel has voted to give President Barack Obama the authority to use military force against Syria in response to a deadly chemical weapons attack.

The vote today in the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee was 10-to-7, with one senator voting present. The full Senate and House are expected to vote on the measure next week.
