GAY STRAIGHT ALLIANCE FACES RESTRICTIONS AT HIGH SCHOOL-Andrew Stelzer

Students at Newsome High School in Lithia have established a gay-straight alliance club, despite the objections of some parents who say that type of club is not appropriate to be meeting in school. But the pressure from those parents have led school administrators to declare that in order to join the club, students will have to get written permission from their parents. When the Hillsborough County Commission voted 5-1 to have the County abstain from promoting gay pride events in June, one of the largest public demonstrations in recent years took place in protest a week later in Tampa.
