PROPOSED PARENTAL NOTIFICATION FOR ABORTION CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT - Mitch Perry

On November 2nd, one of the initiatives that Floridians will vote on will be the Constitutional Amendment regarding Parental Notification for Abortion.

The measure was put on the ballot by the Florida Legislature this year, and House Speaker Johnny Byrd was the top elected official campaigning for it.

This afternoon on WGCU Radio in Fort Myers, Byrd debated Barbara Dravecky, The President and CEO of Planned Parenthood for Southwest and Central Florida.

Under Florida Law, a minor who would have a mole removed must get parental notification….Dravecky was asked why shouldn’t there be notification if the teenager is going to have an abortion? (roll tape#1 o.q.’about parental involvement�)

Representative Byrd and the Legislature brought the issue before the Voters this fall after the Florida Supreme Court ruled last year that parental notification requirements abridge a minor’s right to privacy.
