ELECTION PROTECTION SNAPSHOT REPORT-Andrew Stelzer

12/06/04

On November 2nd, the Election Protection hotline received over 100,000 phone calls from voters who needed help in regard to voting—everything from information about where they were registered, to complaints about long lines or no paper receipts. About 40,000 of these, after review, have been classified as complaints. Now, in an effort to fix some of these problems with the country’s elections process, People for the American way has compiled a database of problems recorded by their 25,000 volunteers who worked around the country on Election Day. WMNF’s Andrew Stelzer spoke with Elliot Minceberg, vice-President of People for the American way foundation, about their new report, called; Shattering the Myth--An Initial snapshot of disenfranchisement in the 2004 election.
