ENVIRONMENTALISTS OPPOSE NAVY PLAN TO DRAMATICALLY INCREASE USE OF AVON PARK BOMBING RANGE FOR TESTS OF EXPLOSIVES AND OTHER LIVE AMMUNITION. Our guest Marian Ryan of the Sierra Club in Winter Haven was one of the people who made a presentation on the first night of a public hearing this week on possible expansion of the use of the bombing range. There was a lengthy piece in the Sunday Ledger (click for article) detailing the economic impact and the effects on about a dozen endangered species. The effects mentioned dealt with noise, shrapnel and loss of nesting areas due to road building.
