THE CORPORATE SCANDALS OF GEORGE W. BUSH AND DICK CHENEY

07/17/02

What was the track record of the president and vice president's business dealings prior to their election? Dick Cheney headed Halliburton, an oil services firm, in the years prior to his election as vice president. Bush made money on investments on the Texas Rangers baseball team and Harken Energy. Their business dealings are raising many questions. Our first guest, Jim Vallette, is a consultant with the human rights/environmental group EarthWatch. He co-authored a report on Halliburton's use of slave labor, murder, and suppression of opponents in places such as Burma and the Caspian Sea oil fields. Vallette also discussed the 6 billion dollars in federal aid given to Halliburton to make the company's foreign oil operations profitable.
