STUDENT ACTIVISTS RESPOND TO DISCRIMINATION AGAINST HAITIANS AND OTHER UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS

11/13/02

Haitians and other non-Cuban immigrants are discriminated against by the federal government, according to our guests, members of several campus organizations at USF Tampa. While undocumented Cuban immigrants are routinely granted asylum here, residents of other Latin American and Caribbean nations who flee undemocratic governments or failing economies are routinely sent back. Our guests were Urvick St. Jean, President of the Black Student Union at USF, Esque Dollar BSU Political Action Chair, Antonio Bonilla, President of the Latin American Student Association, and Roland Victor, president of the Club Creole and past president of the Haitian Club at USF. All agree that the unequal treatment of undocumented immigrants must stop.
