LEONARD DOWNIE JUNIOR AND ROBERT KAISER ARE EDITORS AT THE WASHINGTON POST ... DOWNIE WAS THE PRINCIPAL EDITOR FOR THE PAPER'S WATERGATE COVERAGE AND TOOK OVER AS EXECUTIVE EDITOR IN 1991 AFTER BEN BRADLEE RETIRED. DOWNIE AND KAISER HAVE WRITTEN A HARD-HITTING NEW BOOK CALLED "THE NEWS ABOUT THE NEWS, AMERICAN JOURNALISM IN PERIL". THE BOOK IS CRITICAL OF THE INCREASING TAKEOVER OF JOURNALISTIC INSTITUTIONS BY CORPORATIONS AND THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF THE DRIVE FOR PROFITS.
