THE EFFORT TO REVIVE THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT

01/09/03

Women's rights activists say they believe that the ERA campaign, ratified by 35 states in the 1970s and 1980s- but short of the 38 states needed to be added to the U.S. Constitution, should be re-started. They say that the 27th amendment to the Constitution was added 11 years ago, after being long dormant. Our guests, former Colorado Congresswoman Pat Schroeder and former Pinellas N.O.W. chairwoman Sandy Oestreich, are leaders in this new campaign. They say women still do not have full equality under the nation's laws and the best way to remedy that is the ERA. They are kicking off the Florida campaign on January 19th at USF St. Petersburg.
