THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF THE ISRAELI OCCUPATION ON THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES

01/30/03

John Reese, a peace activist and a hydrogeologist from Seattle recently spent seven months in the territories. He talked about new evidence of environmental impacts of war and occupation on the Earth and on Palestinian communities. Water is contaminated and groundwater tapped out. Israeli and Palestinian waste pollutes villages, streams and Palestinian farmlands. Ancient olive trees are ripped from the ground and this is all in addition to the destruction wreaked by war and its industries - from uranium poisoning by the use of depleted uranium shells, to land and property laid waste by fire, bombings and the machines of war.

John Reese was in Palestine until Dec 18. On Jan 8 he began a 2 month tour of the US. For pictures from Palestine see: http://www.seattlecan.org/.
