The Parents of Martin Lee Anderson satisfied after his 2nd autopsy- by Mitch E. Perry

Although official results of a 2nd autopsy taken yesterday on Martin Lee Anderson may not be available for weeks, the parents of the 14 year old youth who died after being beaten by Panama City Boot Camp Guards say they are now satisfied that their son did NOT die of natural causes.

They commented this morning, after the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner conducted the 2nd autopsy, which took over 12 hours.

Benjamin Crump is the Attorney for the family of Martin Lee Anderson (roll tape#1 o.q.die of natural causes)

Martin's body was exhumed last week and brought to Tampa as part of Hillsborough County State Attorney Mark Ober's investigation into his death, which occurred in January and was captured on videotape, as guards at a state run boot camp in Panama City were shown attacking Anderson.

He died on the 1st day at the boot camp, where he was sent by his parents as punishment for taking a joyride in his grandmother’s car.

But adding insult to his death for the family was the initial report from the medical examiner in Bay County- Charles Siebert – who said after conducting the first autopsy that Anderson died because of sickle cell trait . (roll tape#2 o.q.I think he made a mistake)

That was the voice of Dr. Michael Baden, former chief Medical Examiner in New York City, referring to Siebert’s report (roll tape#3 o.q.clearly a mistake)

Baden was hired by the Anderson family to assist in observing the 2nd autopsy.

The nationally famous doctor said that he has investigated over 6,000 deaths in the past 30 years in New York for fatalities that occurred in prisons – and not a single one ever died of single cell trait – and said that didn’t happen here .

Siebert was present during Monday’s autopsy, and was said to have been helpful during it….In fact, Attorney Benjamin Crump seemed to be defending him after the initial outrage of such a medical examination (roll tape#4 o.q.objectively)

Martin Lee Anderson’s mother, Gina Jones, said she felt a little more at ease after hearing about the 2nd autopsy. But she says she now wants to see those responsible for her son’s death to be held accountable (roll tape#5 o.q.it’s time now)

Hillsborough County State Attorney Mark Ober says it will take months for him to complete his report on who , if anyone, is held accountable in Anderson’s death. Again, Dr. Michael Baden (roll tape#6 o.q.Mark Ober’s call)

The site of Martin Lee Anderson’s beating – a boot camp in Panama City – is scheduled be closed down within the next couple of months.

With another boot camp in Martin County due to close, there will be only 3 such facilities operating in Florida. But the feeling among several state legislators, and those outraged by what has happened her, is that they should all be closed down, as articulated by Seville Brown , President of the Florida state Southern Christian Leadership conference (roll tape#7 o.q. “to bring us justice)
