MECICARE PROTEST OUTSIDE BILIRAKIS OFFICE-Andrew Stelzer
Across the country today, Thousands of citizens, organized by Moveon.org, held a day of action, calling on their local senators and representatives to extend the May 15th deadline for signing up for the Medicare part D prescription drug plan. In Tampa, only 4 people made it to the office of Representative Mike Bilirakis, where they presented his staff with petitions calling for an extension of the deadline, and a giant check for 338,335 dollars, the amount the say Bilirakis has accepted in campaign donations from pharmaceutical companies. They believe those donations may have influenced Bilirakis vote in favor of the Part D plan. WMNF spoke to Maria Augusto, Scott Millender, Andy Karpay, Dave Frocher, who came from Temple Terrace, Palm Harbor, Gulfport, and Tampa to voice their opinions, and asked them to explain why they felt the need to make it to the strip mall of North Dale Mabry Boulevard.
