Former County Commissioner and Tampa City Councilwoman, Jan Platt, spoke this afternoon at the Tampa Tiger Bay Club. She said she had a lot to get off her chest about the proposal for a Mayor of Hillsborough County. WMNF’s Stan Davis was there and filed this report.

Jan Platt was at the top of her game as she spoke before a 70-or-so-person audience about why she is fervently opposed to the county mayor proposal that may go before voters in November.

Platt has two big problems with the initiative…

The first is that it will probably increase—not decrease –the power of the county commissioners …

Platt also said that the language in the proposal is so flawed as to cause major breakdowns in the administration of the county budget, as well as that it will likely lead to legal challenges.

Platt went on to cite several other examples of flawed language, and then ended her prepared remarks by pleading to assembled politicos and politically active citizens…
