PINELLAS COUNTY BACKS OFF PLANS TO DRAIN WATER FROM BROOKER CREEK PRESERVE-Andrew Stelzer
In the wake of massive public outcry about a plan by Pinellas county utilities to drain water from under Brooker Creek Preserve, and use that water for 2 private golf courses, the county announced today that the utilities department is asking the Southwest Florida Water management District to put their application on hold indefinitely, while the county forms an Environmental Science Forum, to solicit input from experts in the community, and reviews the pumping proposal as well as other initiatives affecting parks and environmental lands.
Soon after the announcement, WMNF spoke to Dave Kandz of the St Petersburg Audubon society-- they were one of several environmental groups opposing the draining of the land. parks and environmental lands.
