FCC PLANS FOR MORE MEDIA CONSOLIDATION

Our guest, John Nichols, is co-author of the new book OUR MEDIA, NOT THEIRS (Seven Stories Press). He criticized a plan by the Federal Communications Commission to further deregulate media ownership rules. The FCC is slated to decide the issue on June 2. But Nichols warns that the media is already too consolidated and the breadth of discussion on radio and television is already quite limited. He discussed why having diverse media ownership is essential to a marketplace of ideas and a functioning democracy.
