Brian Blair wants property tax reduction

Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair proposed today a property tax reduction for Hillsborough residents.

But before he got too far along, several of his colleagues on the County Commission said it would be wise to know how much money might be available to such a tax cut – such as tomorrow night’s Budget meeting.

Blair read aloud from the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s office, in which they advocate that the millage be reduced by a ‘significant’ rate (roll tape#1 o.q.in the face of the taxpayers)

But Commissioner Ken Hagen said he was reluctant to have the County’s Budget Director Eric Johnson, begin researching whether the County could afford a millage reduction before beginning budget discussions, set to start Thursday evening (roll tape#2 o.q.possibly make that decision)

Commissioner Mark Sharpe says he needed to know how much money that has not been already dedicated for other needs, he would be prepared to support such a cut – but (roll tape#3 o.q.Commissioner Blair)

The motion was for Budget Director Johnson to research if funds were available for such a tax cut (roll tape#4 o.q.push for in millage)

The County Commission will learn more about how much money might be available for a tax cut at tomorrow night’s Budget hearing, beginning at the County Center beginning at 6PM
