Conspiracy Theorists Leaflet in front of "World Trade Center" opening in Tampa by Mitch E. Perry
Today Paramount Pictures released the film ââ¬ÅWorld Trade Centerââ¬?, directed by one of the most controversial and talented filmmakers in America, Oliver Stone.
But unlike other Stone films, ââ¬ÅWorld Trade Centerââ¬? is NOT considered to be controversial ââ¬â however ââ¬â the topic certainly is.
A Scripps Howard poll released last week reported that one-third of Americans now believe the U.S. government had something to do with the 9/11 attacks.
Today some of those people took the opportunity of ââ¬ÅWorld Trade Centerââ¬?ââ¬â¢s opening to leaflet in front of theatres across the country to give them information on websites that discuss alternative theories to the 9/11 Commission Report on that day of tragedy.
Activist Carol Brulay said she and other 9/11 conspiracy theorists are somewhat disappointed in Oliver Stoneââ¬â¢s film , in that it does NOT address any of the alternative notions (roll tape#1 o.q.ââ¬?from the towersââ¬?)
David Slesinger helps run the website 911courage.org ââ¬â and organized a nationwide conference call for activists to discuss their day of leaf leting. He says one of the leading points of contention among critics of the 9/11 Commission is the molten steel in World Trade Center Building #7, a third collapsed skyscraper which was not hit by a plane (roll tape#2 o.q.ââ¬? Defense language Instituteââ¬?)
Other theories are more political in natureââ¬Â¦.
Peter Zarkony from North Carolina says the biggest evidence of government involvement is what he calls their ââ¬Ëpersistent coverupââ¬â¢ (roll tape#3 o.q.ââ¬?speculationââ¬?)
And Zarkony says he canââ¬â¢t understand why the President and Vice President refused to speak to the 9/11 Commission under oath (roll tape#4 o.q.ââ¬?testifying under oathââ¬?)
Others on the call mentioned how President Bush delayed for months in agreeing to allow for a commission, but was prompted to by the family members of many 9/11 victimsââ¬Â¦
Among those leafleting literature in Tampa was Mia Hamel, who went in front of the University Mall Theatre near the USF campusââ¬Â¦She was arrested and then later released, provided she not return in front of the theatre...
Hamel seized on what other conspiracy theorists seize on ââ¬Â¦..The Project for The American Century (roll tape#5 o.q.ââ¬â¢along with thatââ¬?)
A new book ââ¬ÅDebunking 9/11 Mythsââ¬? ââ¬â an indepth investigation by Popular Mechanics magazine has just been published. In the Foreward to the book, Arizona Senator John McCain writes that The 9/11 Conspiracy movement exploits the publicââ¬â¢s anger and sadness, and traffics in ugly, unfounded accusations of extraordinary evil against fellow Americans.
WMNF will speak to an editor of that book later this month.
