Democratic candidate for Congress comes up with plan on Iraq by Mitch Perry

Democrat Phyllis Busansky, running against Gus Bilirakis in Florida’s 9th Congressional District , came out formally with her plan on dealing with Iraq today.

The race in the 9th District is for an open seat – longtime Congressman Mike Bilirakis is stepping down this year, and Democrats hopes of capturing the Congress this November, include Busansky pulling off a minor upset and taking down Bilirakis son, Gus, a State Legislator.

Part of Busansky’s plan calls for the firing of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld (roll tape#1 o.q.has failed)

Calling for Rumsfeld’s ouster is hardly a radical position inside the Democratic Party – or even out side it…This past week, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, who lost in the Democratic Primary earlier this month because of his support for the war in Iraq, also re-iterated his call that the Defense Secretary step down.

Busansky believes there should be Congressional Hearings on how bad the war in Iraq has gone, and hopes that if she and her fellow Democrats take over the House this year, there will be (roll tape#2 o.q.and let it happen)

Busansky is also calling for the idea of a 3 state solution in Iraq – a theory originally called for by former Ambassador to Croatia Peter Galbreath, and then embraced by Delaware Democratic Senator and potential Presidential candidate Joseph Biden. (roll tape#3 o.q. of oil revenues)

Busansky says that this move will allow the U.S. to redeploy troops out of Iraq, and hopefully avoid a civil war. (roll tape#4 o.q.we’ve given it back)

WMNF contacted the office of the Republican candidate for the 9th District, Gus Bilirakis….He did not return our call by airtime.
