RECENT TRAGIC ACCIDENTS INVOLVING BICYCLISTS IN THE BAY AREA07/10/03
Two serious accidents involving cars vs. bikes have taken place in the last three weeks in the Bay area. In the first, a bicyclist was killed by a motorist on Tampa's Bayshore Boulevard. In the second, this past Sunday 14 cyclists were mowed down by a driver in St. Petersburg. Although no one was killed, two of the bikers were in critical condition. The guests: Scott Orsini, a former board member of the Swamp Mountain Bike Club and Anthony Clifton, president of the St. Petersburg Bike Club said greater driver awareness, courtesy, bike paths and adherence to traffic laws are necessary to reduce this area's status as one of the most dangerous places in the country to bike or walk.
