Healthy Farms Food and Fuels Act by Mitch E. Perry

Today in Washington, a bipartisan bill was introduced that advocates say will help farmers address the country’s energy crises. The bill’s aim is to boost funding for renewable energy development on farms, ranches and forest lands.

The bill, “The Healthy Farms, Foods and Fuels Act of 2006� is the first major agriculture bill introduced prior to the expiration of the current farm bill next year.

Karl Gephardt is a consultant with the group Environmental Defense in Ohio. He’s the former executive director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Office of Farmland Preservation.

WMNF asked Gephardt to explain why he thinks this bill should be approved (roll tape#1 o.q.�benefit for more areas�)
