Tallahassee Black Democrat uncertain he'll endorse Jim Davis by Mitch E. Perry09/19/06
For Jim Davis to win the Governors race, he’ll need all the help he can get.
That means grabbing independent voters, as well as getting his entire base out to vote. But yesterday 2 Democratic Mayors –Jim Naugle of Fort Lauderdale and Susan Gottileb of Aventura - announced their support for Republican candidate Charlie Crist.
And today Tallahassee State Senator Al Lawson, an influential but independent Democrat in Panhandle politics for a quarter-century, says he is undecided about who he will support for governor.
WMNF spoke with Senator Lawson this afternoon. He told WMNF that the issue about Davis voting in 1990 not to compensate 2 black men who were wrongly convicted of murder – Freddie Pitts and Wilbur Lee – was a major issue for people in his district (roll tape#1 o.q. African-american community)
On Saturday night in Tallahassee, Lawson was seen with Charlie Crist at the Clemson Florida State game. But The Tallahassee State Senator says too many people are making an issue of that (roll tape#2 o.q.that’s always been the case)
That’s Tallahassee Democratic State Senator Al Lawson, undecided on who to support for Governor this year…He says he’ll endorse a candidate next week.
