EX-FELONS STRUGGLING TO SUCCEED

07/23/03

Florida is one of only eight states that do not automatically restore full civil rights for ex-felons who have completed their sentences. Ex-offenders are denied state licenses unless they complete a process to have their rights restored. In the next few weeks the AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION and other human rights groups are holding workshops around the state to help people with felony convictions regain their voting and civil rights. Our guests: -Nigel Watson, Florida ACLU -Ramona Merritt, Project Success @ the Pinellas Sheriff’s Office -Pam Wells, an ex-felon who is now seeking to get her rights back -Deborah Makin-Taggart, another ex-felon seeking the restoration of her civil rights.
